As the NFL enters week nine of the 2013 season, Naptown’s Finest takes a look at the AFC South. Listed below, is a breakdown and grade for each team in the division, after eight weeks.

Tennessee Titans (3-4) – The Titans have quietly flown under the radar so far this season, but are very much contenders for this division title. Tennessee lost an overtime game to the Houston Texans in week two, but still have the remainder of their division games ahead of them. The Titans will get a boost in week nine, from the return of QB- Jake Locker, who has been injured since week four.

AFC South Grade – B-

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-8) – The Jaguars are the only team in the AFC South to have not had a bye week yet. The Jaguars are also one of only two winless teams in the league. Jacksonville also just lost their top receiver, Justin Blackmon, to a season-long drug suspension. It’s hard to say that the Jaguars will go winless this season, but it’s a very long shot for them to win this division.

AFC South Grade – F

Houston Texans (2-5) – The Texans are one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. Houston was expected to contend for a Super Bowl bid in 2013, but has dropped their last five games in a row. If not for a few close calls, the Texans could be 0-7 right now. The Houston defense is still ranked at the top of the NFL, but they have already swapped out starting quarterbacks. Houston must win against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday night, if they want any hope to win this division.

AFC South Grade – D+

Indianapolis Colts (5-2) – The Colts have shown the best and the worst of themselves at times this season. For all of the big wins Indianapolis has had, they have also came up short, in very winnable games. The Colts are also getting hit very hard by the injury bug this season. Still, if the Colts can hang on and stay somewhat healthy in the second half of the season, then they could cruise to an AFC South division title.
