The Indianapolis Colts did not come away from their 37-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars unscathed. The Colts had a few banged-up players during the Jaguars game, and one in particular proved costly.

Indianapolis has lost rookie OLB/DE-Bjoern Werner with a torn plantar fascia in his foot. Werner will miss 4-to-6 weeks, and could be affected by this injury for even longer, if it does not heal correctly. The plantar fascia is connective tissue that supports the bottom of the foot, and could prove especially costly to a defensive player, who relies a lot on the sturdiness and positioning of his feet. Werner was the Colts’ 1st round pick (24th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. In his first four games as a pro, Werner had five total tackles and one assisted sack.

The Colts also had to make some roster moves on Monday. Indianapolis has waived WR-Griff Whalen, and also signed FB-Robert Hughes. Whalen, who looked good in the preseason, may have been a victim of roster limits. The Colts will be getting back WR-LaVon Brazill this week, following a four-game drug suspension. Indianapolis may be bringing in Hughes because of the questionable status for starting fullback, Stanley Havili, who suffered an ankle injury last Sunday, as well.
