Should the Indianapolis Colts be Concerned With RB-Ahmad Bradshaw?

The Indianapolis Colts broke their normal protocol this offseason, by bringing in a few high-profile players via NFL free agency. One of those new additions was running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who came to the Colts after six seasons (and two Super Bowl titles) with the New York Giants. Bradshaw brings some much-needed veteran depth to a young running back roster for the Colts, but what can be expected from him this season?

Bradshaw made his Indianapolis debut against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts won the game, but Bradshaw didn’t have much impact on the narrow victory. Bradshaw only touched the ball eight times, (seven rushes, one catch) and only totaled 33 overall yards. Bradshaw’s highlight of the day was a 13-yard rush, but he gave up the majority of the carries to second-year back, Vick Ballard. Overall, it was a less-than stunning debut for the new free agent acquisition.

Expect Bradshaw to have an increase in carries as the season progresses, but the jury is still out, as to what he may be capable of in this offense. Bradshaw spent the preseason on the bench, and saw little action in practice, following offseason foot surgery. If Bradshaw can get healthy, he will prove very valuable for the Colts. If he’s unable to shake off the rust, then Vick Ballard will be carrying the majority of the load, and the rushing game for the Colts will look less-than impressive this season.
