Indianapolis, IN – According to ESPN Colts beat writer Mike Wells, the Colts are expected to be without one of their best linebackers in their Week 1 match-up with the Oakland Raiders. Pat Angerer is not expected to play due to concussion-like symptoms.

Angerer dealt with injury issues all last season, but was able to play in a total of 11 games and totaled 28 tackles as well as a forced fumble. He’s a fan favorite in Indianapolis and known for his hard-hitting ability and leadership skills. The Colts will miss him, but do have enough depth to replace him.

This news is especially disappointing for the Colts due to earlier news that fellow linebacker Kavell Conner (ankle) will also miss their Week 1 game. This leaves the Colts looking to Kelvin Sheppard, who was acquired this past off-season from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for Jerry Hughes. This isn’t expected to be a huge loss, nor is it expected to be a long-term issue. You can expect to see Angerer back on the field in Week 2 as of right now.
