Fantasy Football: Colts Players You Should Start Week 1

Most die-hard NFL fans these days get involved in Fantasy Football, as it’s a fun way to involve yourself in the competition each and every week. This week there are a few Colts players that would be very solid starts for your team. Let’s take a look at which Indianapolis Colts you should start against the Raiders on Sunday.

Andrew Luck, Quarterback

There’s no doubt that you should start Andrew Luck. Heading into his second NFL season, he’s expected to put up big numbers in a high-powered Colts offense. Many see him being the second coming of Peyton Manning in Indianapolis, and during the preseason he did nothing but lift the excitement level about him around Indianapolis.

With targets like T.Y. Hilton, Reggie Wayne, Darris Heyward-Bey, Dwayne Allen, and Coby Fleener, you can expect to see him put up big numbers against the Oakland Raiders defense. He had some issues last season with turnovers, but the coaching staff in Indy believes that he’s fixed the issues, which were mostly mental, and that will not be as big of a factor for Luck.

Overall you can expect him to be a solid fantasy option each and every week, but this week is a must start if you have him. Oakland may have made some moves to try and shore up their defense, but they haven’t done enough to match up with an offense like the Colts have.

Reggie Wayne/T.Y. Hilton, Wide Receiver

There was an earlier article posted yesterday breaking down the Colts’ wide receivers for Week 1, and in this one we’ll go into a couple of guys that you should start. Both Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton project very well against Oakland, and should put up big numbers in different ways.

Wayne will put up great reception numbers, and is always a threat to score. Hilton on the other hand is more known for his deep-threat ability, which matches up very well against the Oakland secondary. Both of these guys will put up consistent fantasy numbers as well, but if you have either one, make sure they are in your lineup on Sunday.

Dwayne Allen

Allen is more of a darkhorse pick, but showed a lot last season when Fleener went down with an injury. Obviously the Colts have two second-year tight ends with great talent, but Allen is expected to be the the starter from everything that has been reported to this point. He’s got sure hands and great route-running ability to go along with a huge body. Andrew Luck began to target him down the stretch last season. He may not put up huge numbers, but he’s a great Redzone target, and if you don’t have a better tight end option, he’ll certainly put up solid numbers.

Those are the four players that are must starts for the Colts this weekend. There are other players such as Heyward-Bey, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Coby Fleener that you could look into in certain leagues, but the four players listed above we project to have good games vs. the Raiders.
