Former Indianapolis Colts’ S-John Boyett Apologizes for Arrest
John Boyett, former rookie safety for the Indianapolis Colts, had quite the Labor Day holiday.
In a much-publicized chain of bad decisions, Boyett caused a ruckus outside of Tiki Bobs Cantina in downtown Indianapolis, before causing an altercation with police. Following a chase and a scuffle with local law enforcement in the early hours of Labor Day, Boyett was held for over 12 hours in the Marion County Jail.
Boyett was released from lock-up Labor day afternoon, and then was subsequently released by the Colts soon after. Once word spread about Boyett’s actions, the Colts wasted little time in cutting ties with the former Oregon Duck. Boyett was on the Injured list as it was, so the decision to release the rookie most likely wasn’t a very tough one.
On Tuesday, Boyett released an apology over social media.

I want to apologize to Mr. Irsay @JimIrsay , the Indianapolis Colts organization @Colts and the Indianapolis police. The Colts gave me an opportunity and I blew it. My behavior didn’t and doesn’t represent who I am. I am deeply embarrassed and disappointed in myself. All I can do now is learn from it and never repeat it. I look forward to showing my true character in the future.
Perhaps Boyett’s incident was just a matter of a young man having too much of a good time. Everyone makes mistakes, and alcohol usually makes those mistakes worse. Hopefully, Boyett will use this mistake as a lesson for the future, but this lesson may have cost him a career in the NFL. Boyett was on the fringe of being part of the Colts’ roster as it was, and this situation will make it much harder for any other NFL team to give him a second look.
