Naptown’s Finest Countdown To Kickoff series continues as the Indianapolis Colts prepare for their third preseason game tonight at home against the Cleveland Browns. With 15 days remaining until they open vs. Oakland in Week 1, today’s honoree is No. 15, LaVon Brazill.
Drafted by the Colts in the sixth round (206th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft, the wide receiver from Ohio University looked to bolster the team’s depth at receiver. Hoping to form a receiving tandem with fellow rookie T.Y. Hilton, Brazill did not see much playing time. While he played in 15 games, he made only 11 catches for 186 yards and was used mostly on special teams.
On June 24, Brazill was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. He has been eligible to play in the preseason, but once the regular season starts, he will not be able to re-join the Colts until Week 5.
#15 Honorable Mention
Blair White (2010-2011): White signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2010 and began the season on the practice squad. With the Colts’ receivers unable to stay healthy, White was promoted to the active roster in Week 3 and became a viable option to Peyton Manning for the rest of the season, scoring five touchdowns. He was waived after the 2011 season.
In what is a little-known fact, White caught the final pass of Manning’s Colts tenure. Late in the 4th quarter of the Colts’ 2010 wild-card playoff loss to the New York Jets, White completed a short pass to the left for three yards to set up Adam Vinatieri for the go-ahead field goal.
As fate would have it, the Colts lost the game as time expired on a Nick Folk field goal, and Manning would never play another down in Indy.
