Indianapolis Colts Make Trade With Baltimore Ravens

The Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens have swapped players.

On Wednesday, the Colts made a trade with the defending Super Bowl champions, trading a running back for a wide receiver. Indianapolis traded running back Delone Carter to Baltimore, in return for wide receiver/kick returner David Reed. This move marks the second time this week that the Colts have added a wide receiver to the roster.

Reed was drafted by the Ravens in 2010, and has appeared in 29 games as a pro. In December of his rookie season, Reed was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, following a game against the Houston Texans. In that game, Reed returned a 103-yard kickoff for a touchdown. That season, Reed led the NFL by averaging 29.3 yards per kickoff return. It would be expected that the former Raven would be used more on special teams, than in the actual starting offense.

Carter was drafted by the Colts in 2011, but never really seemed to find his stride in the Indianapolis backfield. In his rookie season, Carter got the early tag of a player that had a hard time holding on to the ball. With the addition of Ahmad Bradshaw and the emergence of Vick Ballard, Carter was finding a hard time staying prominent in the Colts’ running game. Carter played in 26 games with the Colts, totaling 499 yards and five touchdowns. Perhaps a change of scenery would be good for Carter. The Ravens have a big-time back in Ray Rice, but could use Carter as a change-of-pace rusher.
