Unfamiliar Faces Show Up Strong for Indianapolis Colts in NFL Preseason

Since the end of last season, there have been many new faces added to the roster of the Indianapolis Colts. For a team that is still in the “up-and coming” consideration, the success of these new acquisitions will be very important.

Due to injuries and lack of continuity, many of the new Colts did not seem to mesh in their first game of the preseason. The second game, however, seemed to show signs of what this reloading team is trying to build.

For a team that brought nearly 40 new players into training camp this year, the Indianapolis have to be happy with seeing the risks pay off, even if it’s in the preseason. The Colts took a lot of chances this offseason, bringing in multiple new players at several positions.

Game two of the NFL preseason for the Colts gave fans the chance to catch a first glimpse of outside linebacker Bjoern Werner. Werner was the first pick from the colts in this year’s draft, and had yet to take the field in a pro game. Werner didn’t earn MVP honors in his debut last Sunday, but his presence was immediately noticeable. Werner made the most of his time on the field, imposing his will and pushing around the offensive line of the New York Giants.

Cornerback Greg Toler was brought in to the Colts last March, and had many people wondering what his addition might mean. Toler showed a bit of his potential last Sunday, by snagging a top-notch interception from Eli Manning.

On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey also showed a small sample of his talents. After an up-and-down training camp, Heyward-Bey looked solid on Sunday. The former Oakland Raider led the Colts in catches against the Giants, and looked good doing it.

Names like Greg Toler, Bjoern Werner, and Darrius Heyward-Bey aren’t yet familiar to Colts fans. After last Sunday’s victory against the New York Giants, some of those names should be a bit more well-known.
