A Monday MRI on the knee of Colts tight end Coby Fleener came back negative, per reports from Mike Wells on Twitter.
Fleener is expected to only miss a few days with a mild knee sprain.
Injuries have been a dark spot on an otherwise excellent offseason for Fleener, though he has struggled in the team’s first two pre-season games. A concussion knocked him out of practice a couple of weeks ago, and this knee injury took him out of the team’s second pre-season contest.
With Dwayne Allen returning from a foot injury, it’s fair to wonder if Fleener’s role will decrease since he hasn’t done much to earn the trust of the coaching staff.
All of the hype surrounding Fleener this offseason was seemingly validated in training camp when he was lighting it up, but as was the case last year, injuries slowed him down again.
The Colts want Fleener to be a big part of their offense, so he’s going to need a speedy recovery and show something in the team’s final two pre-season games unless they keep him out for precautionary reasons.
