What to Expect From the Buffalo Bills, Against Indianapolis Colts in NFL Preseason

The Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills begin their NFL preseason on Sunday, and both teams will have a new look.

Both the Bills and the Colts have made major additions recently, and even more recently, both teams have been bitten by the injury bug. When these teams take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, they will look much different than they will in the regular season.

One of the major questions about the Buffalo Bills in 2013, is who their starting quarterback will be. The Bills picked up veteran quarterback Kevin Kolb in the offseason, but Kolb will be in competition to start against Buffalo’s first round draft pick, E.J. Manuel. The two players are expected to battle at the quarterback throughout the preseason, but Kolb has already had a setback. Kolb injured his knee last Sunday, after slipping on a wet mat in practice. Kolb is expected to start against the Colts, but if not Manuel will go. Expect to see more of the rookie regardless on Sunday.

Former Colt Jerry Hughes, is now playing linebacker for the Bills. Hughes was drafted by the Colts in 2010, but never really lived up to potential. Hughes was expected to eventually fill in for either Robert Mathis or Dwight Freeney, but never really made the expected impact. Hughes was traded to the Bills last April, and is now backing up Mario Williams on the Bills’ depth chart.

Wide receiver Stevie Johnson injured a hamstring in practice last week. Johnson, arguably Buffalo’s best player, may see little to no action against the Colts on Sunday. That injury will open up a lot of possibilities for other receivers on the team, as Buffalo has not had much help from any receivers other than Johnson in recent seasons.

These two teams will have a different look in August than in September, but there are still interesting things to watch for when they meet this Sunday.
