With reports that Darrius Heyward-Bey would miss significant time due to a sprained MCL now being retracted, it’s interesting to read news from Adam Caplan that the Colts will work out Laurent Robinson.

The former big money free agent signing of the Jacksonville Jaguars has apparently shaken off the effects of his concussions, and is now taking a tour around the NFL working out for teams. The Colts are the seventh team that Robinson will have worked out for in the last couple of weeks, a list that includes the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

Robinson is a very injury prone wide receiver, and he has never played a full 16 game season in his six-year NFL career. Drafted by the Falcons in 2007 out of Illinois State, Robinson has bounced around the league with the Rams, Cowboys, Jaguars, and will now seek out his fifth team and try to get back to the form he showed in 2011 with Dallas.

His 54 catches for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011 with the Cowboys enticed the Jaguars to pay him a sizeable five-year, 32.5 million dollar contract.

It was a huge leap of faith for the Jaguars, and a foolish one.

While Robinson may never return to his 2011 form, he would be a solid veteran addition for the Colts. With the emergence of Griff Whalen at this year’s training camp, Robinson would be more insurance than anything, and he wouldn’t come at a hefty price. The Colts could get him for a bargain, and that’s the type of low-risk, high-reward move this team can afford to make right now.
