The Colts made a roster move on Tuesday. According to Mike Chappell on Twitter, defensive tackle Brandon McKinney has been released from the injured reserve list after reaching an injury settlement with the team.
Approaching 30 years of age, this may be the end of the road for McKinney, who has not played in the NFL since 2011. He made a good career move by following Chuck Pagano to the Colts from the Baltimore Ravens, but unfortunately he hurt his knee in the 2012 pre-season and has been unable to get healthy since then.
According to various reports, McKinney’s failure to recover from his torn ACL in 2012 was the reason he was placed on injured reserve this offseason with the Colts, who cited ‘knee issues’ as the reason he would miss the season.
McKinney is now free to sign with any team, but he will have to pass medical exams first. At this point, that seems like a longshot. He can give it another try in 2014, or maybe try and latch on with another team if he is able to get healthy at some point this season.
