LB Monte Simmons Waived by Indianapolis Colts

As 2013 training camp progresses for the Indianapolis Colts, cuts will be coming in bunches.  The Colts have not made too many roster moves yet, but you can expect to see the roster slimmed down quickly, following their first preseason game on Sunday, August 11th, at home against the Buffalo Bills.

The Colts did make a move on Monday, waiving linebacker Monte Simmons. Simmons was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Fransisco 49ers in 2011, and spent the season on their practice squad. Simmons was then signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in march of 2012, and released in August of that year. Simmons was signed to the Colts’ practice squad last October.

The removal of Simmons may be to save an extra roster spot for another position, or it may just be a way to trim off a bit of fat from the lineup. With injuries to linebacker Pat Angerer still nagging, it seems like the Colts could use as many bodies at that position as possible. Still, cuts will have to be made, in order to get this roster where it needs to be. Some of these players on the fringe of the roster, may see this cut as a reason to step up in practice, if they want to be part of this team in 2013.
