On Saturday, they rested.

The Indianapolis Colts took Saturday off, wrapping up the first week of their 2013 training camp. It just happens that the Colts’ day off turns out to be the same day as the 2013 NFL Hall of Fame inductions go down. Whether or not the Colts watch the Hall of Fame ceremony, they will be back on the practice field on Sunday.

The first week of training camp went smoothly for the Colts, but was not without its mishaps. A few players went down with injuries, most on the offensive line, but no major injuries were reported. A couple of players were waived, and a couple of offensive lineman were added. Still, the Colts avoided the serious injuries to starting players, even though its only been one week into camp.

The offense began the week looking a bit lost. Although Andrew Luck was the most familiar with Pep Hamilton’s new offensive scheme, his receivers seemed to take a few practices before they got into their groove. Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton played steady from the start of practice last Sunday. Second-year receiver Griff Whalen, who played with Luck and under Hamilton in Stanford, has been impressive during the first week. Free agent acquisition Darrius Heyward-Bey had a few drops early in the week, but seemed to find his way after a few days.

One of the most impressive performances in week one of training camp was the revamped defense of the Colts. Some of the new pieces have fit into place very quickly, and have already shown their presence on the field. The defense for the Colts is going to battle themselves throughout camp, until they unleash themselves on the rest of the NFL.

It’s early in camp for the Colts, but the Colts are already looking good.
