Does WR Darrius Heyward-Bey Have the Dropsies for the Indianapolis Colts in Camp?
Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey has a chance to rejuvenate his career with the Indianapolis Colts, but that is totally up to him.
Heyward-Bey spent the first four years of his pro career as a member of the Oakland Raiders. Heyward-Bey was a top receiver in Oakland, but that’s not saying much, when discussing a team that has had a record of no better-than .5oo for the past decade. Heyward-Bey was brought over to the Colts this offseason as a project, but could pay big dividends for a team looking to find a second receiver behind Reggie Wayne.
So far in the Colts’ 2013 NFL training camp, Heyward-Bey has looked less-than superb. Where young receivers like Jeremy Kelley and Griff Whalen have been gaining praise for surprising play, Heyward-Bey has seemed to struggle for the first two days of training camp. Heyward-Bey has already got a bit of unimpressive attention for having several dropped passes in practice.
Other than Wayne, Heyward-Bey has more NFL experience than any other wide receiver currently on the Colts roster. If he can keep his hands on the ball, Heyward-Bey could be the speedy deep threat that the Colts could use regularly. If he can’t come up with those catches continuously, then he may see himself getting passed up by a younger player at his position.
