Which Wide Receivers Will Shine for the Indianapolis Colts at 2013 NFL Training Camp?

The Indianapolis Colts are looking to build a solid core of wide receivers, and they are looking to find those players during their 2013 NFL training camp.

Future Hall-of-Fame wide out Reggie Wayne is entering his 13th NFL season, and he will keep the top receiver spot for the Colts until he decides to retire. Aside from Wayne, the rest of the wide receiver roster seems to be wide open. The competition to see which other wide outs will fit where on this team is one of the more interesting stories of this training camp.

Second-year wide out/special teams player T.Y Hilton had a breakout rookie season in 2012, and seems fairly locked in the slot receiver position on offense for 2013. The biggest question mark on offense is who will be starting in the second receiver spot, and which players will make the team as backups.

The spot opposite of Wayne on offense was expected to be open for second-year receiver LaVon Brazill to take, but Brazill has hampered his options by getting suspended for the first four games of the season. Brazill’s violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy will cost him the start of the regular season, but allows him to practice and participate in preseason games.

Brazill’s botch may cost him his spot with the starters, and could open up options for other new additions to the Colts. Indianapolis brought in former Oakland Raider, Darrius Heyward-Bey, but Heyward-Bey has begun training camp with a case of butter fingers. Heyward-Bey (who is entering his 5th NFL season) will have to fight for his spot against Brazill, as well as several younger players and new additions at the position. Currently the Colts also have wideouts Jeremy Kelley, Nathan Palmer, Roderick Rumble, Jobin Sambrano, Lanear Sampson, and Griff Whalen also fighting for a roster spot in camp.

Naptown’s Finest will continue to cover the battle of the wide receivers during Colts training camp.
