Should the Indianapolis Colts Cut TE Weslye Saunders?

The character issues continue to mount for the Indianapolis Colts.

After the NFL handed down an 8-game suspension to reserve tight end Wesyle Saunders for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. The severe suspension is a result of at least two failed drug tests for Saunders, and makes the second player on the Indianapolis Colts’ roster to be suspended since the Super Bowl.

The biggest concern for the Colts in this situation, is the fact that these offenses are seeing to become chronic. Media and fans in and around Indianapolis are starting to wonder a bit more about character concerns, when they should be focused on a very important season for the Colts.

Saunders was released by the Pittsburg Steelers last October, after the tight end was suspended for taking stimulant drug Adderall, which is considered a banned substance by the NFL. The Colts signed Saunders less than a week after his release from the Steelers.

In six games for the Colts last season, Saunders caught two passes for a total of 15 yards. With this case being the third time in the last month that a member of the Colts has been reprimanded for some kind of league violation, the time may have come for further punishment. The Colts have a loaded roster at the tight end spot, and Saunders’ 8-game suspension may have just put his helmet on the chopping block.
