2013 Could be an Elite Year for Andrew Luck and Indianapolis Colts

It’s hard to ignore the record-breaking rookie season that Andrew Luck had in 2012.

Only because he happened to be the top NFL Draft pick in one of the greatest rookie quarterback classes in history, some of Luck’s achievements may have been overwhelmed. The success of Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson helped to hinder some of the attention that otherwise would have been heaped on to Luck’s shoulders. In any other season, the Colts quarterback would have been overwhelmingly praised for having one of the best rookie seasons ever in the NFL.

Still, we are a world of lightning-fast multimedia, and the strides made by Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, will be easily ignored if the team does not continue to progress this season. Luck’s debut was impressive, as was the advancement that his team made in 2012. The Colts had one of the best turnarounds in league history, but still have a way to go, before reaching regular success on a constant basis.

This year, the Colts have continued to build around their young quarterback, adding mostly to the injury-riddled offensive line. Protecting Luck is paramount to the success of this team, because a great quarterback is worthless if he is consistently being put on his butt. Luck has little chance to blossom as a player, if he is a sitting duck behind a beat-up offensive line.

The Colts have put Andrew Luck in position to succeed in 2013. This team is (and will continue to be) a work in progress, but if they continue to grow around their quarterback, then they have the chance to be very good for a very long time.
