Looking Over the 2013 NFL Schedule for the Indianapolis Colts, Part One

Now that the 2013 NFL Schedule has been released, it’s hard not to look over the opponents and the dates and times of games, to initially see how the season for the Indianapolis Colts might shape up. Of course, very much will change from the middle of April until the end of August, but it never hurts to take a closer look at who the Colts will play when.

Indianapolis will begin their 2013 season with two home games, both against teams who did not reach the playoffs last season. The Colts kick off their 2013 campaign against the Oakland Raiders, and then will welcome the Miami Dolphins in week two. Both teams will have multiple draft picks early in rounds. The Dolphins also have the round two pick from Indianapolis this year, due to the 2012 trade for cornerback, Vontae Davis. If Indianapolis can hold court at home, then they could start the 2013 season on a winning streak.

The next two games for the Colts will be on the road. Indianapolis will make a cross-country trip to California in week three, to face the NFC Champion San Fransisco 49ers. A week later, the Colts have their first 2013 AFC South divisional game, when they travel to face the rebuilding Jacksonville Jaguars. A win against the 49ers on the road seems unlikely, and the Jags always give the Colts trouble, but Indianapolis could still end up at least getting one win out of the two-game trip.

After four regular season games in 2013, the Indianapolis Colts might be undefeated. Still, conventional wisdom would see the Colts losing a game or two in the first quarter of the season. As it looks right now, the Colts could be 3-1 after four games.
