NFL Free Agency: Should the Indianapolis Colts Consider Randy Moss?

There was a time near the end of last century, when wide receiver Randy Moss was the most dynamic player in the National Football League. Moss was nearly unstoppable. Moss took the NFL by storm, as a speedster with amazing hands.

Those glory days are behind the Hall of Fame-caliber wide out, and now the 15-year veteran finds himself once again looking for work. The wide out’s skill set has diminished over time, but he could still possibly be beneficial for a team looking to find a big target in the passing game. If the Indianapolis Colts are interested in short-term help, then maybe they should look Moss’s way.

The Colts have been shopping around for a receiver in NFL free agency, but their search has come up empty so far. Indianapolis has their own Hall of Fame receiver in Reggie Wayne, but outside of that, their passing attack is packed with young and unproven talent. The Colts indeed do need someone on the opposite side of Wayne, but they also need a player ready to take over the top spot when Reggie retires.

Moss recorded a catch in 14 regular season games with the NFC Champion San Fransisco 49ers in 2012, but never had more than four catches or 75 receiving yards in any single showing. Still, his simple presence on the field would demand attention. If the Colts need a big target with big hands for their young quarterback, then maybe they should give this old man a try.
