NFL Free Agency: Darrius Heyward-Bey to Visit Indianapolis Colts

For a few weeks, there have been whispers that the Indianapolis Colts were looking to bring in a wide receiver in NFL free agency. Most of those whispers came from owner Jim Irsay on Twitter, who posted numerous indications that the Colts were looking to either pick up or trade for a wide receiver. Although many names were tossed around by fans and the media, nothing came out of Irsay’s cryptic tweets.

This week, a far more genuine possibility seems to have presented itself. Fifth-year wide out Darrius Heyward-Bey will be visiting the Colts on Monday and Tuesday. Heyward-Bey has spent his entire career with the Oakland Raiders, after being selected with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Heyward-Bey is known for being the speedy type of receiver that the Raiders tend to covet. In four seasons with the Raiders, Heyward-Bey has 140 receptions and 11 receiving touchdowns.

Bringing in Heyward-Bey is a far cry from making a big splash in free agency, or making a blockbuster trade. Heyward-Bey has battled injury issues for most of his short career, and never really seemed to materialize, or to live up to his high draft status. Any new weapon would be put to good use in this offense, it’s just tough to see how good of a fit this player might be.
