Indianapolis Colts Make Cuts

The Indianapolis Colts have been quite busy in free agency already this season. To help build up a roster that was already solid last season, the Colts have brought in several position players, as well as other options to add depth. To make room for these new additions, Indianapolis had to release some other position players from last year’s roster.

The most recent of these cuts was safety Tom Zbikowski. Zbikowski only spent the single season with the Colts, brought in as part of head coach Chuck Pagano’s exodus experiment from the Baltiomore Ravens last year. Zbikowski, along with fellow defensive player Cory Redding, followed Pagano from the Ravens to the Colts. Although his efforts were stable last season, Zbikowski’s 38 tackles and one sack simply were not what the Colts were looking for at the safety position. With the new addition of Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry through free agency, there really wasn’t room left on the roster for the former Raven.

Zbikowski joins longtime Colt Dwight Freeney on the list of released players. The Colts have also cut ties with wide receivers Austin Collie and Donnie Avery. Recently, cornerback Jerraud Powers decided to leave the Colts, to join former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians with the Arizona Cardinals.
