NFL Free Agency: Indianapolis Colts Sign Defensive Tackle Ricky Jean-Francois

On Thursday, the Indianapolis Colts made a seventh pick-up in the early days of this season’s NFL free agency. Indianapolis has quickly made several moves, both big and small, to help build up and reload their team. Each of the seven players brought in since the beginning of free agency on Tuesday afternoon have been on the defensive side of the ball. With the Colts going so heavy on offense last season, it’s refreshing to see the plan for this franchise starting to balance out.

Thursday’s free agent acquisition was another fairly low-profile player, that may have a big upside for Indianapolis in the future. Defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois, who played for the NFC Champion San Fransisco 49ers last season, is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Although his name might not ring a bell in the average football fan, Francois could find himself making a name in Indianapolis quite soon.

The fourth-year pro has played in 56 total games, all as a 49er. During San Fransisco’s run to Super Bowl XLVII, Francois had a career-high 51 tackles. At 6-3, 295 pounds, this defensive tackle may just be the type of run-stuffer that the Colts have been needing.
