Indianapolis Colts Sign Fili Moala to Contract Extension
On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts signed a contract extension to defensive tackle Fili Moala. The move to keep Moala is an indication of what Indianapolis expects from the defensive tackle position, but is also giving credit to Fili’s talents. The Colts need help at the defensive tackle position, and if healthy, Fili Moala could become a catalyst for a reloaded Indianapolis defense.
Moala was drafted as a second round pick by the Colts in 2009. His production has been limited, but his talent obviously kept him in the minds of the new coaching staff of the Indianapolis Colts, once the entire franchise was gutted and flipped inside-out, prior to last season. Even with the drafting of Alabama defensive tackle Josh Chapman last year, Moala had his chance to prove his worth as a member of this reloaded team.
Moala didnt see the field much in 2012, playing limited time, and going down with a knee injury in week 12. Moala has 54 solo tackles in 39 starts during his time as a pro. at 6’4” and 310lbs, Moala is exactly what the Colts need, in order to stuff up the middle of their defensive line. If he can come back healthy, then this low-risk gamble, could pay off big in the long run.
