Profiling Indianapolis Colts Interim Head Coach Bruce Arians

On Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts will take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium without their head coach Chuck Pagano. In his stead, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will take over the reigns as interim head coach for the near future. This team will play hard in Pagano’s absence, but may also play a bit more aggressive with Arians at the helm.

Although this is Arians’ first stint as an NFL head coach, he has been well-traveled with involvement in other high-powered NFL offenses. Arians won two Super Bowl titles as a offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Pittsburg Steelers from 2004-2011. Arians has even worked with the Colts previously, from 1998-2000, as quarterbacks coach to another rookie signal caller in Indianapolis by the name of Peyton Manning.

The Arians offense is an aggressive one, built around a strong running game with solid deep passing threats. Andrew Luck and Donald Brown are not Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James or Ben Roethlisberger and Jerome Bettis, but with the right teaching and the right tools in place, this young offense could prove to be potent and explosive for years to come.
