This Sunday will mark the first home game for the 2012 Indianapolis Colts. Sunday’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings will also mark the debut of a new free technology offered for Colts fans. On Sunday, the Colts will launch the debut of a free app for Smartphones, BlackBerrys and iPod Touch. Fans will be able to download the free app from iTunes, Android, or the BlackBerry Store.

This new technology is being used as an advancement for fans in the stands at the game. NFL attendance has been down slightly, due to expenses, and the ever-growing home entertainment possibilities, with newer televisions and the NFL Sunday Ticket. Even fantasy football has affected game attendance, causing fans to rather stay home and watch the scores from all of the games in relation to their fantasy teams.

With the app, fans at Lucas Oil Stadium will be able to receive multi-angle replays, fantasy stats, and real-time scores from around the league. There will also be a live REDZONE channel, and even a decibel level for inside the stadium. Fans will also be able to access a stadium map and traffic details outside the stadium. The radio broadcast of the game will also be available, as well as one-click access to social media involving the game and the teams playing.

NFL attendance isn’t quite what it used to be. With ever-increasing costs for tickets, parking, and food, it can be quite expensive to see a pro football game live. With advancements in home entertainment, watching a game on a giant flat screen television with friends and family can be just as exciting, and a lot less complicated. Still, the NFL is trying to change with the times, and to make watching the game at your local home stadium that much more entertaining. On top of that, when it’s all said and done, nothing beats a good old-fashioned home game parking lot tailgate party.
