Injuries During Day Three at Indianapolis Colts Training Camp

Similar to last season, the Indianapolis Colts have suffered tough injuries early. This year, there is no lockout to blame injuries on, just the simple fact that at any given place and any given time, anything can go wrong. Before we could say ‘bright future’, the Colts have season-ending injuries suffered in the third day of camp.

During the first day of training camp practice where the team used full pads, the Colts were hit with bad news about season-ending injuries to two different players. Offensive lineman Ben Ijalana and linebacker A.J. Edds were both diagnosed with ACL injuries that will put both players on the shelf for this entire season.

A.J. Edds was entering his third season as a pro. Edds, a huge linebacker at 6ft 4in and 246lbs, spent most of his time on the practice squads of the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. Edds, who was originally from Greenwood, Indiana, was picked up by the Colts in September of last year.

Ben Ijalana, who was drafted by the Colts in the second round of the 2011 draft, came into the league with high hopes. Sadly, Ijalana has been troubled by injuries for much of his young pro career. Ijalana played in only four games during his rookie season of 2011, before suffering a similar ACL injury.
