Colts Hire Ryan Grigson as New General Manager
By Editorial Staff
Well, it looks like Ryan Grigson has done a little more than emerge as a top candidate. According to various reports, the Colts and owner Jim Irsay are all set to announced the hiring of Grigson, the Philadelphia Eagles’ director of player personnel, as their new general manager. Grigson is an Indiana native and Purdue graduate, and he brings a wealth of player talent evaluation experience to his new role. This is particularly pertinent because former top man Bill Polian (and son Chris) came under fire this season as it became more clear that the team was very shallow behind Peyton Manning and the other big-name starters.
Even though player selection and development is a big part of Grigson’s appeal, his first big decision will be whether or not to fire head coach Jim Caldwell. The Colts are obviously in housecleaning mode, and I don’t see any possible way that it makes sense to keep Caldwell around while the rest of the babies have been tossed out with the tepid bath.
