Colts in Tenuous Control of First Pick

Christmas weekend turned out to be a good news/bad news proposition for the Colts.   Although they won, in dramatic fashion, over the Houston Texans on Thursday, the Colts still have only two victories on the season.   They were helped out a bit in their run toward the number-one pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, who beat the Washington Redskins on Saturday.  The hapless St. Louis Rams, though, got blown out in Pittsburgh.

Now, as before Christmas, the Colts control the situation.   They own all tie breakers with the Vikings, so the Colts will definitely end up with a higher pick than Minnesota, by virtue of Indy’s current two-win-to-three-win deficit.   If the Rams can beat the 49ers at home (ho!ho!ho!), then the Colts get the first pick.  If the Colts lose to the Jaguars (*biting nails*), then the Colts get the first pick.

If the Rams win, and the Colts lose, then I think we have to mark this as the worst season in Indianapolis Colts history, hands down.
