On what should have been a Monday night showcase for Peyton Manning on his way to another Super Bowl appearance, the Indianapolis Colts instead fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, 24-17. In his debut as a starting NFL quarterback, Curtis Painter threw for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions. The Colts’ line-of-scrimmage game took a decided step backwards, as the team rushed for just 62 yards while allowing Tampa to run for 192.
Painter looked much better than I expected that he would, and he might be able to turn in a decent season in Manning’s stead. The Colts now stand at 0-4, but the schedule goes soft now, with games against the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. Go Colts!?
