The Zippy and The Chippy – Browns at Colts (Game 2)

I think we were all looking forward to the home opener, where we hoped that the Colts would heal up against the Browns after getting slaughtered by the Texans.   What we got was a depressing reassurance that the Colts really do revolve around Peyton Manning, and almost no one else makes much of a difference.   The next 15 weeks are going to be painful.

The Zippy

  • Adam Vinatieri missed his only field goal attempt last week but rebounded with 13 points against the Browns.
  • Kavell Conner stepped into the LB void and made 10 tackles (4 solo).
  • Pat Angerer filled in ably for Gary Brackett in the middle.
  • Antoine Bethea made some big plays, found his way into the backfield a couple of times, and recovered a fumble.
  • Joseph Addai picked up 64 yards on 14 carries and appears to be somewhat refreshed this season.
  • Delone Carter carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards.
  • The offensive looked marginally tighter in helping that running game along.

The Chippy

  • Kerry Collins fumbled again and went just 19-of-38 passing.
  • Special teams couldn’t do much with speedster Josh Cribbs, as he averaged 40 yards on kickoff returns and 23 on punt returns.   At least he didn’t take one back.
  • Jerry Hughes continued to be Jerry Hughes.
  • Dallas Clark, Jacob Tamme, and Anthony Castonzo all participated in at least one tackle.   They’re offensive players.

Things should be much better next week.   After all, it’s just the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town.
