CBSSports.com reports tonight that Colts linebacker Kavell Conner hurt his right hand late in today’s practice session. Apparently, Conner broke his pinkie.
Any injury to Conner has to count as significant news right now, because he was expected to slide into the third linebacker role left open by the free-agent departure of Clint Session. If Conner were unable to play for an extended period of time during camp, it would create the opportunity for new Colt Ernie Sims to step into the lurch. Sims should figure into the mix prominently, anyway, or the Colts wouldn’t have paid him to come into town. An injury to one of the three incumbents (Pat Angerer and Gary Brackett are the other two) could be all Ernie needs to grab a starting spot.
