Melvin Bullitt Re-Signs With Colts
By Editorial Staff
Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star reports this afternoon that safety Melvin Bullitt has agreed to stay with the Colts on a new multi-year contract. It’s not clear at this point how much the deal will pay Bullitt, but it will likely represent a decent raise over his rookie contract. Both the Rams and the Cardinals were said to have strong interest in Bullitt, who became a starter in recent years when Bob Sanders inevitably went down. Ironically, Bullitt himself missed three-fourths of 2010 with a shoulder injury. When healthy, though, he has proven to be the kind of speedy, disruptive force that the Colts have preferred on defense during the Peyton Manning era. With this signing, the Colts have one of their big pieces in place for this season, and we can hopefully put the Donte Whitner rumors to bed.
