Colts added another big body this morning with the signing of almost 300 pounds of Ricardo Matthews.

Matthews was the teams final pick in the 7th round and has signed a 4 year deal worth somewhere in the region of $1.83 million. The ex Cincinnati Bearcat will most likely be designated to the practice squad for 2010 as he gets used to the speed and power of the NFL. Long term the Colts will want to use him as part of their defensive line rotation as a hybrid DT/DE specifically on running downs where it is hoped he will be able to use his size to control the point of attack.

With just two days left until camp the Colts now have five of their eight picks under contract. With third rounder Kevin Thomas expected to miss the season with a knee injury it is now a race against time to get number one pick Jerry Hughes and second round selection Pat Angerer signed in time for the first practice.
