With Anthony Gonzalez injured, it appears the Colts might be doing a little shopping. Thanks to Stampede Blue, via the National Football Post, for announcing that the Colts worked out three wide receivers today.
The NFP reports that David Patten, Chad Jackson and DJ Hackett all worked out for the Colts today. With the recent roster cuts, Indy could be making room for a signing. Stampede Blue also reports that Hank Baskett has cleared waivers and could come at an affordable price. He is guaranteed to make the three year vet minimum of 535K, but will probably make less than the 1.5 million he would have with Philadelphia.
Ultimately, I think the Colts will be fine without signing anyone, especially if Gonzo’s injury appears to be minor. I feel Jacob Tamme, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, and Gijon Robinson add enough to fill in just fine. None the less, adding a veteran presence might not be a bad idea. It could take some pressure off Reggie Wayne and allow Collie and Garcon to still work in the slot.
My initial thoughts are I’m not sure on Baskett, Patten is too old, Jackson is not even worth the time, and Hackett had some solid years in Seattle and could be a nice addition. At this point, I say take a chance on Hackett or stay pat with what we got!
What about your thoughts?!?
