Priest’s Out

Priest Holmes, a RB who both Mike and I at Naptown’s Finest admire and respect (and fear when he takes the field against the Colts) is set to announce his retirement today.

Holmes is coming off a dismal season, one that started in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders and then three tough games against the Broncos, Packers and Colts – three games the Chiefs lost. So far, he’s caught only 5 passes for 17 yards and rushed for 137 yards in four games. He has no TDs on the season. And it looks like the reaggrivation of his neck injury during the Colts game this past Sunday might have been enough to push the decision to retire, though that isn’t the official reason.

Regardless of this year’s injury-mired season, Holmes worked a 10-year career that most RBs aspire. This Texas ’97 graduate was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens as a return man, and worked his way up to backup RB. Then in 2001, he found a new home in K.C. and took the role of one of the most feared running back in the league:

1,780 Rush Attempts

8,172 Rush Yards

4.6 yards Rush Average

Longest Rush: 72 yards

94 TDs (8 were receptions)

339 Receptions

8.7 yards Reception Average

Longest Reception: 67 yards

16 fumbles (only 11 lost, averaging out to 1.1 fumbles per year!)

Here at Naptown’s Finest, we respect great players and we send Priest Holmes off with the utmost respect!
