Colts Injury Update: Andrew Luck Cleared for MNF, While 3 Defensive Starters Ruled Out
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been cleared from the league’s concussion protocol and is ready to go Monday night against the New York Jets, as the team released their final injury report on Saturday.
Luck is no longer listed on the injury report, which is obviously great news for the Colts:
However, a trio of key defensive starters have already been ruled out including safety Clayton Geathers (neck), outside linebacker Robert Mathis (bicep), and cornerback Patrick Robinson (groin).
In Geathers’ absence, expect rookie safety T.J. Green to start alongside veteran safety Mike Adams, while nickelback Darius Butler could be also deployed at the position again in obvious passing situations.
Otherwise, the Colts activated outside linebacker Trent Cole off injured reserve earlier this week, and the veteran could help fill-in for Mathis–albeit on somewhat limited reps coming off such extended in-game inactivity.
Meanwhile, backup cornerback Rashaan Melvin should slide into the starting lineup on the other side of Vontae Davis (groin)–the latter who has been taken off the injury report all together, with Butler covering slot duties.
The only major question for the Colts is whether star wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (back) will play on Monday Night, as the team’s top playmaker is officially listed as ‘questionable’. However, Hilton has been a full participant in practice for consecutive days, and it would be surprising if he didn’t in fact play.
Likewise, Denzelle Good (shoulder)–also listed as ‘questionable, has been a full participant in practice for three straight days and looks like he’ll be good to go at starting right guard.
Lastly, rookie defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway (back) was upgraded to a full participant in Saturday’s practice, but like Hilton and Good, is still listed as ‘questionable’.
