Colts Claim Pair of DB’s Matthias Farley, Neiko Thorpe Off Waivers
According to ProFootballTalk, the Indianapolis Colts have claimed a pair of defensive backs Matthias Farley (Arizona Cardinals) and Neiko Thorpe (Oakland Raiders) off of waivers respectively:
Originally signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Notre Dame, the 5’11”, 210 pound Farley recorded 13 tackles in 4 preseason games (1 start) during his short-stint in the desert, but definitely stood out:
In his graduate senior season with the Fighting Irish this past year, Farley was a team captain and recorded 41 tackles, a pass defensed, a forced fumble, and an interception
He finished his 4-year collegiate career with the Fighting Irish, having 192 career tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 5 passes defensed, 8 interceptions, and a forced fumble.
Farley wasn’t the most heralded draft prospect entering this year’s NFL Draft, but he did himself a major favor by posting some impressive physical measurables at his Notre Dame pro day this past spring:
Meanwhile, Thorpe was initially signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. Since then, he’s spent time in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts in 2013 before joining the Oakland Raiders for the past two seasons.
Like Farley, Thorpe was among his team’s final 53-man roster cuts on Saturday.
The 4th-year safety has appeared in 37 career games (2 starts), recording 44 tackles, 7 passes defensed, and an interception. He appeared in 14 games (2 starts) this past for the Oakland Raiders, finishing with 33 tackles, 6 passes defensed, and an interception.
Obviously, with all of the injuries, the Colts were looking to shore up their secondary with some of their roster additions on Sunday. So far, it looks like mission accomplished regarding extra defensive back depth.
