Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was named to a consecutive Pro Bowl Sunday evening, as he’ll be replacing the Denver Broncos Chris Harris Jr.–who will be playing in the Super Bowl:

While Davis’ play wasn’t as dominant as 2014, he still was by far the Colts top cornerback and remains one of the best players at his position in the NFL.

Davis started all 16 games for the Colts this season, recording 48 tackles and 4 interceptions.

According to ProFootballFocus (subscription), Davis was targeted 96 times for 49 receptions (51.0% of completion), 584 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and an NFL rating of 76.9.

That’s coming off a season in which he allowed 0 touchdowns in 2014. In fact, his only touchdown he unofficially allowed last season was to his Colts teammate T.Y. Hilton in the Pro Bowl.

This season Davis graded out as ProFootballFocus 25th best cornerback with a +6.6 grade overall. However, his completion percentage of 51.0% was the 10th best at his position overall, just one spot ahead of the Carolina Panthers Josh Norman.

Still, while Davis’ play somewhat regressed, he continues to be the Colts best defensive player and realistically the only true star on their defense these days.

For the Colts, it means that the franchise will continue to have a player in the Pro Bowl, as the team was in serious jeopardy of not having a Pro Bowler for the first time since 1997.

Davis recently being named to the Pro Bowl changes that, as he’ll be the team’s lone representative.

It’s great to see him get his fair share of recognition once again.
