According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is reportedly suffering from a recent foot sprain and is officially “day-to-day”:

Fox 59’s Mike Chappell also reported that Hilton had an MRI on his foot earlier this week, and that his timetable for recovery is currently unknown. He was also not seen at Colts practice today:

On the season, Hilton has 38 receptions for 621 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in 8 games. Hilton was injured in Week 1 with a bruised knee earlier this season in what’s been somewhat of a quiet year for the diminutive, yet dangerous wideout.

The Colts could sorely use him against a stalwart Broncos defense that features a talented secondary, especially at cornerback with the likes of Aqib Talib and Chris Harris.

If nothing else, Hilton could lose valuable practice reps when it comes to learning some of the nuances of new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski‘s freshly implemented offense–although not all that much may actually change with such a short week of preparation.

In his potential absence, expect backup wide receiver Griff Whalen to assume the role as the team’s 3rd wide receiver, while the team could look to possibly promote wideout Duron Carter from the practice squad for additional depth.

Either way, Hilton’s loss would be a big one for the Colts, especially with Phillip Dorsett already out. Here’s hoping he’ll be healthy enough to recover in time for Sunday’s game.
