Colts Linkstorm: Minicamp Rolls On

The Indianapolis Colts continued to work through minicamp this past week as they hit the halfway point of the offseason workouts. With four weeks to go before the break, the Colts have a number of interesting battles playing out in practice.

Our own Dave McKee took a loot at the offensive depth chart and what battles might be playing out.

Steve Andress at Colts.com discussed the competition going on at center during camp. The Colts are splitting reps between Jonotthan Harrison and Khaled Holmes. Neither was a good option last season, but it is better than splitting snaps between two QBs.

Nate Davis from USA Today gives us his current power rankings. He has the Colts third overall, just behind the Seahawks and Packers but leading the AFC head of the Broncos.

Kevin Bowen at Colts.com gives us a wrap up of Phase Two. Among the highlights are defensive coordinator Greg Manusky talking about pass rushing and the Colts players being over DeflateGate. Bowen also covered the Colts rookies as they took in festivities as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Fast Friday.

Stephen Holder from the IndyStar wonders if Pep Hamilton will be able to live up to the hype with all the talent stocked on offense. Hamilton has all kinds of options, but the Colts will have to produce on that side of the ball, especially in big games where seven points just won’t cut it.

The 2015 season is also an extended job interview for Hamilton, who was on the short list for a head coaching job last season. There is a very good chance that the Colts will be looking for new offensive coordinator in 2016.

Mike Wells at ESPN answers a ton of questions in his Mailbag (Tweetbag?) Part I. The highlight might be about the return of Robert Mathis, which has to be an interesting question for Wells. Those who’ve followed him know that he used to cover the Pacers and was inundated with questions about Danny Granger’s return from injury a few years ago. Wells also answered more questions in Mailbag Part II .

Nate Dunlevy continues to with his “What to Expect” series with three more Colts’ rookies. The bar for David Parry is pretty low as he’s expected to merely eat space at defensive tackle. Safety Clayton Geathers likely won’t play much on defense, since there are two veterans ahead of him on the depth chart.

Defensive end Henry Anderson faces an interesting challenge. Most defensive linemen in a 3-4 scheme don’t accumulate stats, and that means another low bar for Anderson in 2015. His job is merely to give clear pass rushing lanes for the outside linebackers and to force running backs into less than ideal positions.
