Potential Jonathan Taylor trade could give Colts unique betting value

The Colts could take a step back if they trade their star running back.

The Indianapolis Colts could be parting ways with running back Jonathan Taylor after allowing him to seek a trade, which is a bad sign for the team’s outlook in the 2023 season.

Indy is already sitting in the bottom half of the league in the Super Bowl odds for the 2023 season, and now it could be moving its most dynamic offensive player.

This is going to put some pressure on rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, and that could create some value in the season-long prop market.

Colts’ odds to finish with NFL’s worst record in 2023

Indianapolis is currently +1500 (Bet $100 to profit $1500) to finish with the worst record in the NFL. While the Colts should be better than teams like the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans on paper, moving Taylor could hurt the team’s offensive output.

Indy scored the second fewest points in the NFL in the 2022 season, and now the team could be without its best offensive player. That’s a recipe for disaster.

The Colts organization believes in Richardson at the quarterback position, but he’s also a rookie. There’s a good chance there are growing pains for him in 2023.

Not only that, but without a proven running game, it’s going to put more pressure on Richardson as a passer. In his last season at the University of Florida, Richardson completed just 53.8 percent of his passes for 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

It’s reasonable to be a little concerned if he has to carry this team with his arm.

Luckily for the Colts and their fans, the team plays in a weaker division in the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans both expected to struggle in 2023.

However, if Taylor is dealt and the Colts’ offense sputters again, there’s no reason the team can’t find itself in the conversation for the worst record. At +1500 there’s a ton of value in taking Indy – even if Colts fans don’t want that to be the outcome.
