The Matt Ryan era in Indianapolis may be officially over.

The team announced on Wednesday that Nick Foles will start at QB for the Colts on Monday Night Football against the Chargers, benching Ryan in the process.

Will that help or hurt their chances of playing spoiler to the Chargers on Monday night? Let’s take a look at what the oddsmakers think and then I’ll give you my best bet for the game.

Chargers vs. Colts Odds, Spread, and Total

  • Chargers are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 games in Indianapolis

  • Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last five games played in December.

Chargers vs. Colts Prediction and Pick

Don’t fall for the narrative that the Chargers are looking like contenders now that they’re starting to get healthy. Over their last three games, they’re 20th in net yards per play and those games were against the Raiders, Dolphins, and Titans.

Now they have to face a defense that is far superior than the last three they played against. The Colts rank 9th in opponent yards per play and have held plenty of offenses in check throughout the season.

Don’t be discouraged by the Colts switching to Matt Ryan. If we’re being realistic, Foles won’t be any worse than Ryan. He’s upside could be better but his downside is nothing worse than a lateral move.

He has the advantage of going up against one of the worst defenses in the League. The Chargers allow 5.9 yards per play, the worst in the NFL, and they also allow 5.3 yards per rush, which ranks 31st in the league.

Look for Zack Moss to have a big game in place of injured Jonathan Taylor.

I think Indianapolis can keep this game close.
