Through three weeks, the Indianapolis Colts have been on a rollercoaster it seems but some players have had steady performances.
The Indianapolis Colts currently sit at 1-1-1 after three games. They picked up their first win Sunday at home against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. There have been plays where Indianapolis has not looked very good, and then there have been times where the Colts look great.
Indy literally has a win, a loss, and a draw. If that doesn’t scream inconsistency I don’t know what does. Although the team has been inconsistent, some players have shown up every week. With all of the inconsistent play thus far, I am going to talk about three guys who have remained consistent.
3. Receiver – Michael Pittman Jr.
Even though Michael Pittman Jr. missed week two, he has by far been the most consistent of all the people on the offense, especially the receiving core. Pittman has done a good job in the two games he has played in with running routes, hauling in passes, and blocking when it is needed. In the two games that he has played, he has averaged 8.5 receptions and 193 yards. That is an average of 96.5 yards per game.
Pittman caught eight passes in the Week 3 victory against the Chiefs. He did a great job getting separation and finding openings in the zones. There were a few of the catches that Pittman made against the Chiefs that were jaw-dropping! He is starting to be the favorite target of quarterback Matt Ryan. The Colts need to do what they can to keep him heavily involved in the game plan in any way that they can.
Indy is obviously better when Pittman is on the field. Not only is he the most talented receiver in this group, but he is also the most seasoned player in this group. Pittman can take on the leadership role for the young guys. It is going to be imperative that Pittman and the rest of the receiving core keep defenses honest so that they do not tee off on Jonathan Taylor.

2. Defensive Tackle – Grover Stewart
A lot of the time, Grover Stewart plays in the shadow of all of the household names on the defensive line like DeForest Buckner and Yannick Ngakoue. Through the first three weeks, however, Big Grove has been the most consistent player on the defensive line. He constantly does his job and gives the rest of the team chances to make plays.
Many assumed this kind of breakout season was coming for Stewart after he had a dominant training camp and preseason. When Grover Stewart showed up this year for Indianapolis, it was evident something was different and that he was ready to dominate opposing offenses.
Grover Stewart on his approach this season: “I need to blow up all the plays and that’s my goal.”

Against the Chiefs, Grover had two tackles and kept constant pressure on Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Kansas City offense. He said that he wanted to blow every play up this season. While he may not have blown every play up, he sure is close. Grove has done his job through these first three games, which is eating up blocks, getting after the quarterback, and making tackles when the opportunities are there.
The Colts have found a diamond in the rough with Stewart. He has a lot of athleticism and speed. Indy’s defense has not looked the best so far this season, outside of the most recent game against one of the most high-powered offenses in the league. The Colts have welcomed the great play by Grover Stewart, and hope he continues to produce as he has been.

1. Guard – Quenton Nelson
The offensive line has been rocky, to say the least through the first three games. Matt Ryan has been sacked 12 times this season and hit many more. However, you can not put much of the blame on the shoulders of four-time Pro Bowl, Quenton Nelson. He truly is the anchor of this line. He rarely loses any battles on the line and constantly pancakes defenders. Nelson is one of the best linemen in the NFL.
That was evident on the night before the season when Indianapolis made Nelson the highest-paid guard of all time. Indy extended Big Q to a four-year contract worth $80 million. He continues to show why he’s worth that much.
Quenton Nelson was tasked with blocking the stout defensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs, headlined by All-Pro Chris Jones and Frank Clark. Nelson stood his ground and did his job to try to keep the jersey of Matt Ryan clean. He has been the most consistent one on the Colts’ line so far this season.
The line has not been very good as a whole and has not given Matt Ryan the time he needs to get the ball out. If the rest of the line can start playing like Nelson, they will be okay. We have seen flashes of this offensive line playing well, and we have succeeded. At the end of the day, the line is the most important aspect of the game. If we can control it moving forward, we will be okay.
