The Indianapolis Colts have been rumored to be a landing spot for the veteran quarterback leaving the Los Angeles Chargers and it’s set to be final.

The NFL has been a frenzy this offseason and the Colts quarterback situation has been nothing less than frantic. The Colts’ fans have been mixed on their feelings of the current quarterback as well as Chris Ballard stating Jacoby Brissett was the quarterback for the time being.

Obviously, the front office wanted Rivers as all season long the rumor mill was running wild.

Matt Miller on twitter was the first to get it out to the public at about 11 am eastern time as he announced something was in the works

Jason La Canfora of CBS sports confirmed it a few hours later on Twitter too:

Ian Rappaport confirmed it just moments ago that the deal will be worth about $25 million

Philip Rivers has been a consistent quarterback for the Chargers for the past decade and a half making it to the AFC Championship game a few times. The Colts have been connected to the Chargers since head coach Frank Reich was the quarterback’s coach for the then San Diego Chargers in 2013 and offensive coordinator in 2014-2015.

In 2013 Rivers threw over 4,800 yards with 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while Reich was the quarterback’s coach. He also completed nearly 70% of his passes and had a quarterback rating of 106.3.

While Reich was the coordinator Rivers threw over 10,000 yards over two years, with 60 touchdowns and 25 interceptions with a 67% completion rating and a 93.8 rating.

The signing of Rivers and the trade of DeForest Buckner gives many Colts fans a sense of relief being as last season the Colts stayed relatively quiet in free agency.  Chris Ballard is making some aggressive moves to bolster the defensive interior line and to solve the quarterback problem for the time being.

With the Colts trading away their first-round pick, it seems they’re confident enough in Rivers and Brissett to lead them into the season.
