Jean Sifrin: Tight End, UMass

After a late start to collegiate football after a scout noticed him playing flag football, Jean Sifrin is going to begin his professional football career at 27 years old. Last season, Sifrin caught 41 receptions for 637 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns for the Minutemen and was named 1st-Team All-MAC.

When asked whether he was surprised to learn that Sifrin was 27 years old, his new coach Chuck Pagano couldn’t help but agree during Day 2 of Rookie Mini-Camp

"“Yeah, I was surprised as you when they told me he was 27,” said Pagano. “The way he runs around, the way he looks, I was a little bit shocked. He runs around like a 22-year old.”"

According to Colts.com’s Kevin Bowen, Sifrin already had a nice catch during Day 1 of the team’s rookie mini-camp in 7-on-7 drills.

While the Colts are stacked at the tight end position right now with Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener atop the depth chart, and a key reserve in Jack Doyle playing behind them, the offense places a heavy emphasis on two tight end sets.

Sifrin is a longshot to make the Colts 53-man active roster. However, he could very well be a useful practice squad stash in case an injury arises to one of the Colts young tight ends, especially with Allen’s injury history. He’ll likely compete with former collegiate basketball standout Erik Swoope for such a spot on the team’s practice squad.
