On Friday, the NFL announced that the Indianapolis Colts have received a compensatory pick, Round 4: 144th overall, as a result of last offseason’s free agent departures.

In comes as ‘compensation’ after the Colts lost tight end Coby Fleener, inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman, and safety Dwight Lowery in free agency an offseason ago, while only adding free agent cornerback Patrick Robinson and quarterback Scott Tolzien in their place.

The Colts now have the following draft picks:

  • Round 1
  • Round 2
  • Round 3
  • Round 4, Round 4 (compensatory)
  • Round 5
  • Round 6

Of course, it’s good news for the Colts as any additional draft pick(s) help–especially on a team with so many holes on the defensive side of the football.

There’s a lot of value that can potentially be found with a 4th round pick, and new Colts general manager Chris Ballard is presumably pretty happy with having another mid-round pick at his disposal come draft day.
