Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was surprisingly listed on the team’s injury report and limited in practice in recent days, but it appears that he’s being held out for rest–meaning Colts fans can relax.

It looks as though Indianapolis Colts fans can safely breath a sigh of relief, as starting quarterback Andrew Luck is seemingly healthy despite being limited in consecutive practices Wednesday and Thursday to a listed “right shoulder” injury on the team’s official injury report:

On “The Dan Dakich Show” on 1070 The Fan, the team’s general manager Ryan Grigson extinguished any speculation that his superstar quarterback is actually injured.

Rather, he indicated that it’s simply routine maintenance for Luck, and that the Colts are just looking to keep him fresh for the regular season:

They get rest just like Robert Mathis gets rest or other players, you just want guys fresh going into the season, and he’s in a new chapter really in this organization and this team, and you just want the guy fresh for Sunday.”“He’s all good,” added Grigson. “I mean he’s throwing a ‘zillion balls. The media has seen it, the people in Anderson (Indiana), day-in and day-out throwing a ton of balls. You know with a lot of velocity and even knocking some guys over.”“I guess you can sit and look for something that’s not there, but I’m just saying he’s going to be ready for the game this weekend, and we have a plan that we think is best for him and one he feels good about, and that’s what we’re doing,” concluded Grigson."

Obviously, the Colts are being overly cautions with their franchise player at this time and rightfully so. Not only is Luck now the highest paid player in NFL history, but he’s also coming off a season in which he missed 9 games due to injury–including the team’s last 7 games to a season-ending lacerated kidney.

Simply put, any Super Bowl aspirations the Colts have rest on #12’s golden right throwing arm, and right now, the Colts have to do everything possible to keep him healthy and fresh for the stretch run.

If that means limiting him in mid-week practice, so be it–as like many things, the NFL regular season is a marathon, not a sprint.

It’s slightly concerning that Luck is showing up on the injury report at all, but it doesn’t appear that this current listed injury is significant–anymore than a major league pitcher needing a daily break from performing a bullpen session.

It looks as though he’s back out throwing the football during Friday’s practice:
