The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that the team has waived injured safety Andrew Williamson, and that he will revert to their injured reserve should he clear waivers.

Originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted rookie free agent, the 6’1″, 212 pound senior safety stood out for the Vanderbilt Commodores this past season, recording 41 total tackles, a forced fumble, and 4 pass breakups–being also named to the 2015 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll.

In his Commodores collegiate career, Williamson had 19 career starts in 49 career appearances.

With projected starters Mike Adams and Clayton Geathers also out with injuries, the Colts have been thin at safety during the early portion of training camp.

Nickel cornerback Darius Butler has recently been receiving 1st team reps at starting safety along with rookie 2nd round pick T.J. Green–the latter who recently recovered from his own calf injury.

Given the waiving of Williamson, as well as the health of the safety position overall, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Colts used the freed up roster spot to add additional safety depth for training camp purposes.
